Helsinki Challenger Storylines
Virtanen Keeps Knocking, but Nobody’s Answering
Otto Virtanen has reached four Challenger finals in the past 52 weeks and lost all four, including three in 2026. He won the opening set against Patrick Kypson in last year’s Helsinki final before falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Finn clearly knows how to reach championship Sunday. Now he needs to figure out how to finish the job.
Melbourne Is Already on Their Minds
Six Top 100 players have entered Helsinki, and there’s a good reason to keep playing in November: the Australian Open.
Toby Samuel sits at No. 97, while Martin Damm (105), Aleksandr Shevchenko (109), and Otto Virtanen (121) are chasing valuable ranking positions. Nobody wants to travel halfway around the world in January just to play qualifying.
Mpetshi Perricard Looking to Stop the Bleeding
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has been riding the struggle bus, losing nine of his previous 11 matches entering November.
As we noted in our Orléans entry list, the former World No. 29 needs a turnaround. His massive serve should be dangerous indoors, but he needs more than free points to get his season moving again.
