Charlottesville Challenger Entry List storylines to watch
Michael Zheng returns to Challenger competition after a breakthrough season
The two-time NCAA singles champion reached the third round at both Wimbledon and the US Open in 2026, breaking into the ATP Top 100 in September.
Zheng also reached the third round of the Cincinnati Masters, defeating Ugo Humbert along the way. Charlottesville offers the 22-year-old American another chance to build on a season that has transformed his professional career.
Shelbayh Looking to Stop the Bleeding
Abedallah Shelbayh reached the Columbus Challenger final on indoor hard courts on October 4, winning five matches before falling to Dylan Dietrich.
He’s since lost four consecutive matches, including a 6-3, 6-1 defeat to J.J. Wolf in Sioux Falls. Charlottesville offers an opportunity to rediscover that Columbus form.
Jack Kennedy gets a hometown opportunity
University of Virginia freshman Jack Kennedy joins the Charlottesville field after winning the 2026 USTA Boys’ 18 National Championship and earning a US Open main-draw wild card.
The former world No. 3 junior also captured the 2025 US Open boys’ doubles title. Playing in Charlottesville gives one of American tennis’ promising young prospects an opportunity to compete at the Challenger level in his new college hometown.
