HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club Preview!

Reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz headlines a packed Queen’s Club field when the HSBC Championships begin on Monday, June 16.
Stuttgart champion Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Holger Rune, and local favorite Jack Draper are in London hoping to win their first major grass court titles.
Join me as I break this one down and share my prediction for the HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club.

Queen’s Club Players to Watch
Here are the players on my HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club radar.
Carlos Alcaraz: Defending Wimbledon and former Queen’s Club champ. He can beat the field in his sleep, but will he want to?
Jack Draper: The local favorite and Stuttgart champion (2024) has a vastly improving game to go further than his 2024 Queen’s Club quarterfinal run.
Holger Rune: The Dane may not have any grass court titles, but he’s a dangerous player on any surface.
Taylor Fritz: The Stuttgart champion has the serve, forehand, and proven winning grass court chops to go deep this week at Queen’s Club.
Alex de Minaur: The 2024 Hertogenbosch champion is another who should benefit from the reduced level of talent. His wheels and forehand could go far against this field.
Ben Shelton: No grass court titles to his name, but Shelton has the big game necessary to go deep, including the Round of 16 at last year’s Wimbledon.
Jakub Mensik: Mensik hasn’t fared well over his handful of grasscourt matches, but his serve and ability to end points quickly could play well here.
Frances Tiafoe: Tiafoe is an accomplished grass court player (2023 Stuttgart Title) and could revive a roller-coaster season with a good grass court run.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard: His monster serve should win him plenty of free points, but the rest of his game is a question mark.
Jacob Fearnley: He’s a local favorite with a big serve and sledgehammer forehand who could surprise this week.
Grigor Dimitrov: The 2014 champion has six retirement losses across the last 52 weeks.
Reilly Opelka: The Libema Open semifinalist’s improving return game behind his massive serve bolsters his grasscourt chances.
Phil Naessens Queen’s Club Prediction
Carlos Alcaraz boasts one of the game’s best returns. His return game will be tested by possibly Jordan Thompson in the second round and either Reilly Opelka or Ben Shelton in his quarter.
If Alcaraz does get through the serve-bots, he could face either Holger Rune or big-serving Jakub Mensik in the semis. That seems like too much work for an ATP 500, and maybe we don’t see the best of Carlitos coming off his dramatic French Open victory over Jannik Sinner.
If he’s motivated to do so, Stuttgart champ Taylor Fritz has a strong chance at a semifinal showdown with big-hitting local favorite Draper. Jakub Fearnley may push Fritz a bit, but he may be gassed after beating Alexander Zverev in Stuttgart.
My money this week is on Draper. He’s fresh, and probably the only player in his path with the game to interrupt his Queens Club run to the semis would be Frances Tiafoe, and he’s too inconsistent to back.
Draper stands at 15-8 on grass. He’s 25-8 overall this season with a solid game and knows how to win on this surface. He’ll have the majority of the crowd on his side no matter who he plays, and I like his chances of winning the 2025 Queens Club.
Queens Club Prediction: Jack Draper
