Berlin Tennis Open: Keys Unlocks Berlin Door!

Defending champion Jessica Pegula joins nine of the world’s top 10 WTA Tour players when the Berlin Tennis Open begins on Monday, June 16.
Pegula will face a heavy challenge with four past champions in the main draw, and fellow Americans Coco Gauff and Madison Keys could also snatch the WTA 500 title away from their compatriot.
Join me as I break this one down with a prediction for the Berlin Tennis Open.

Berlin Tennis Open Players to Watch
Aryna Sabalenka: Boasts a 34-19 grass court record but has never won a grass court event on the WTA Tour.
Mirra Andreeva: Has played fewer than 10 grass court matches (6-3) but is 5-4 straight up this season against the WTA Tour Top 10.
Coco Gauff: The 2024 Berlin Tennis Open semifinalist boasts a 24-10 grass court record and has reached three finals (Clay) since late April.
Madison Keys: The Australian Open champ has amassed a 52-19 career mark with three titles on grass.
Jessica Pegula: The defending champ is 28-20 lifetime, but her doubles prowess makes her an underrated grasscourt player.
Jasmine Paolini: Despite a sub-.500 grasscourt record, the 2024 Wimbledon finalist is a formidable player on this surface.
Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion, has faced off-court issues that have negatively impacted her results.
Donna Vekic: The 2022 Berlin Tennis Open finalist and Last year’s surprise Wimbledon semifinalist boasts a 55-36 mark on the grass.
Phil Naessens Berlin Tennis Open Predictions
It’s wild that such an accomplished player like Aryna Sabalenka has only come close a couple of times but has never won on grass.
I’m sure she’d love to change her poor grass court success, but her draw is heinous. Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina is in her quarter, while reigning Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini and Australian Open nemesis Madison Keys reside in the bottom half of her draw.
I like Keys to reach the final.
Keys will use her service to power past early-round opponents Marketa Vondrousova and Dianna Shnaider. If not for an injury retirement, Keys should have defeated Paolini at Wimbledon, and the American is playing well enough to avenge her All-England Club loss.
It’s hard not to like an All-American Berlin Tennis Open finale.
Coco Gauff has as straight a path to the semis as possible. Paula Badosa and Emma Navarro are all that stand in the way of a potential semifinal encounter with defending champion Jessica Pegula.
Pegula has enough variety to get past Amanda Anisimova or Mirra Andreeva. While Coco is hotter than fish grease, Pegula is the better grasscourt player of the two and beat Gauff in last year’s semifinal.
Berlin Tennis Open Prediction: Madison Keys
