Monfils and Wawrinka’s Last Stand
The biggest 2026 French Open wild cards headlines belong to Gael Monfils and Stan Wawrinka.
At 39 and 41 years old, respectively, both veterans are nearing the final stages of their careers, and Roland Garros appears ready to give two fan favorites one more moment on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Monfils remains one of the most popular players in France, while Wawrinka is still remembered for his stunning 2015 French Open title run when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final.
French fans will also be watching Hugo Gaston closely.
The creative left-hander became a Paris crowd favorite during his breakout 2020 Roland Garros run and continues to thrive in the unique atmosphere of the event despite falling outside the ATP top 100.
The French Tennis Federation also continued its recent trend of investing heavily in youth development.
Arthur Gea and Moise Kouame both received men’s main-draw wild cards, while teenage prospect Ksenia Efremova earned a women’s singles invitation.
Australian teenager Emerson Jones also received a main-draw wild card through the reciprocal agreement between Tennis Australia and the French Tennis Federation.
American Nishesh Basavareddy earned his spot through the USTA’s Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge.
The 21-year-old has climbed steadily up the ATP rankings over the past year and now gets his first opportunity in the French Open main draw.
Australia’s Adam Walton and Emerson Jones also benefited from the reciprocal wild card agreement between Tennis Australia and the French Tennis Federation.
Goffin Heads French Open Qualifying Wild Cards
The qualifying wild card lists also featured several notable names.
Former world No. 7 David Goffin was awarded a men’s qualifying wild card as he attempts to work his way back up the rankings, while former French Open doubles champion Kristina Mladenovic received a qualifying invitation on the women’s side.
Several teenagers were included in qualifying as well, including Tahlia Kokkinis, Daniel Jade, and Daphne Mpetshi Perricard, signaling Roland Garros’ continued emphasis on developing young talent.
