Three Guayaquil Challenger Entry List Storylines

Román Andrés Burruchaga Leads the Field

Román Andrés Burruchaga enters Guayaquil ranked No. 62 after reaching his first ATP Tour final in Houston, where he held three championship points before losing to Tommy Paul.

The Argentine also won the São Paulo Challenger on clay in March and will be among the leading contenders for the Guayaquil title.

Juan Pablo Varillas Returns After 2025 Final

Juan Pablo Varillas returns to Guayaquil ranked No. 200 after reaching last year’s championship match, where he lost to Paraguay’s Daniel Vallejo 7-5, 6-7(7), 6-3.

The Peruvian ranked No. 327 during that run and has climbed more than 100 positions since his 2025 final appearance.

Álvaro Guillén Meza Gets Another Opportunity

Álvaro Guillén Meza enters the 2026 Guayaquil Challenger ranked No. 332 after receiving a main-draw wild card.

The Ecuadorian reached the semifinals here in 2025, taking the opening set against eventual champion Daniel Vallejo before falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. He’ll look to improve on that performance in front of the home crowd.
