Storylines From the 2026 SP Open Entry List:

Leylah Fernandez Leads the Field

Leylah Fernandez sits at the top of the entry list at No. 31 in the world.

The Canadian is 28-28 over her last 52 matches, but she still owns wins this season over Iva Jovic, Alexandra Eala and Ann Li.

Fernandez also defeated Tereza Valentova in the 2025 Osaka final, adding another interesting angle if they meet again in São Paulo.

Tereza Valentova Is a Legitimate Title Threat

Tereza Valentova may be only 19, but she already looks ready to win at this level.

The Czech is 32-21 over her last 52 matches and has beaten players including Marie Bouzkova, Elise Mertens, Jelena Ostapenko and Yulia Putintseva.

She reached the 2025 Osaka final and recently pushed Elina Svitolina to three sets in Cincinnati.

Paula Badosa Is Finding Her Form Again

Paula Badosa has dropped to No. 84, but the former world No. 2 has shown signs of a resurgence.

She won the Bastad 125, reached the Iasi final and made the Hamburg quarterfinals this summer.

The question now is whether that improved form carries over to hard courts, where she is just 8-10 over her last 52 matches.

The SP Open Field Has Serious Depth

The headliners are only part of the story.

Yulia Putintseva, Solana Sierra, Jil Teichmann, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Eva Lys give the tournament plenty of established quality.

Further down the list, Nadia Podoroska, Anna Blinkova, Claire Liu and Yue Yuan add experience, while Kaitlin Quevedo, Mary Stoiana, Carol Young Suh Lee and Teodora Kostovic give São Paulo a strong group of younger players to watch.

There should be very few comfortable first-round matches if this field holds together.

Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah Is the Defending Champion

Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah produced the biggest breakthrough of her career in São Paulo last season.

The 20-year-old Frenchwoman is currently ranked No. 173 after reaching a career-high No. 116 in February 2026.

Her recent form has been difficult, with a 15-24 record over her last 52 matches and a 0.90 dominance ratio.

Rakotomanga Rajaonah is not among the 23 players on the current entry list, so her status will be worth watching as wild cards and additional entries are announced.
