Roehampton 2 Entry List: Former Top 40 Player Radu Albot in Hard Court Challenger Qualifying
The Roehampton 2 entry list has been released, and a former Top 40 player will have to battle through qualifying.
Radu Albot, who reached a career-high No. 39 in the ATP rankings in 2019, is ranked No. 507 and is entered in qualifying for the hard-court Challenger.
The 36-year-old Moldovan owns an ATP title and has spent much of his career competing at the sport’s highest levels.

Three Roehampton 2 Entry List Storylines to Watch
Radu Albot: From No. 39 to Challenger Qualifying
Albot’s decline in ranking is difficult to miss.
The former world No. 39 is now No. 507 and will have to qualify just to reach the Roehampton main draw. He did show some fight earlier this season, reaching the semifinals of the Chisinau Challenger in May.
It’s a remarkable fall for a player who won the Delray Beach ATP title in 2019.
Ryan Peniston: Another Former Top-125 Player Fighting Back
Albot isn’t the only player in qualifying with a much higher ranking on his résumé.
Ryan Peniston is ranked No. 445 and reached a career-high No. 123. He also has a recent Challenger title on his résumé, winning Hersonissos 5 last October before reaching the semifinals in Matsuyama a month later.
Peniston’s place in qualifying makes him one of the most accomplished players in the field — and another example of how unforgiving the professional tennis ranking system can be.
Ivan Ivanov: A Very Different Direction
While Albot and Peniston are trying to climb back toward rankings they once held, Ivan Ivanov represents the other side of the Challenger game.
The Bulgarian teenager is listed directly into the Roehampton main draw, giving the field a young player looking to establish himself while veterans such as Albot and Peniston attempt to rebuild.
That’s what makes this Roehampton field interesting: one player trying to reclaim a career, another trying to revive one, and a young prospect trying to start his.
