Kingston Challenger 1 Entry List Storylines
Royer Leads a Strong Kingston Field
Valentin Royer arrives in Kingston as the tournament’s top-ranked player at No. 78. The Frenchman is the only player in the field ranked inside the ATP Top 100, giving him an obvious target on his back when play begins August 17.
Martínez Brings Plenty of Tour Experience
Pedro Martínez is the second-highest-ranked player in Kingston at No. 148, but the Spaniard brings considerably more ATP Tour experience than that ranking suggests. He’ll be one of the players capable of challenging Royer for the title.
Tomic, Schwärzler Make for an Interesting Contrast
Bernard Tomic and Joel Schwärzler couldn’t represent more different stages of a tennis career. Tomic remains one of the most recognizable names in the draw, while the teenage Schwärzler continues his climb through the professional ranks. Both will be worth watching on the Kingston hard courts.
Draxl Leads the Canadian Interest
Liam Draxl enters the main draw at No. 211 and gives Canadian tennis fans another player to follow. Draxl has spent plenty of time competing at the Challenger level and will look to use the Kingston hard courts to make another move up the rankings.
Bicknell Gets the Home-Court Spotlight
Jamaica’s Blaise Bicknell is in the qualifying field, giving the host nation a player to rally behind. The No. 344-ranked Bicknell will need to navigate qualifying before earning a shot at the main draw, but his presence adds an important local angle to the Kingston Challenger.
