ATHENS, Greece — The draw is set for the inaugural Vanda Pharmaceuticals Athens Open, and despite its WTA 250 status, the tournament features a surprisingly deep field led by top seed Clara Tauson, former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen, and hometown favorite Maria Sakkari.
The event runs July 13-19 on outdoor GreenSet hard courts in Athens.
Tauson enters as the tournament’s No. 1 seed and could face former world No. 32 Ajla Tomljanovic in her opening match before a potential quarterfinal against fifth seed Sara Bejlek.
The Dane headlines the top quarter of the draw, which also includes two Greek wild cards in Sapfo Sakellaridi and Marianne Argyrokastriti.
Read on for the Athen Open draw breakdown, beginning Monday, July 13.

The second quarter may be the toughest in the tournament.
Third seed Barbora Krejcikova opens against Viktoriya Tomova, while former Top 10 player Rebeka Masarova also lurks in the section. Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, who is unseeded despite being one of the biggest names in the field, begins against sixth seed Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, creating one of the most compelling first-round matches of the week.
The bottom half features another collection of dangerous players.
Eighth seed Magda Linette opens against Mai Hontama, while American Alycia Parks could meet fourth seed Maria Sakkari in the second round if both advance. Sakkari, playing in front of her home fans, will be one of the tournament’s biggest attractions as she looks to make a deep run in Athens.
The final quarter is led by seventh seed Tereza Valentova, who shares her section with Anna Blinkova, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, rising teenager Alina Korneeva, and second seed Ann Li. Li opens against Maria Timofeeva and is projected to meet Valentova in the quarterfinals.
