British Tennis Suffers Another Blow as Jack Draper Withdraws from Wimbledon

British tennis suffered another devastating blow Monday as Jack Draper withdrew from the 2026 Wimbledon Championships with a recurring arm injury, just one day after Emma Raducanu pulled out of the tournament with a stress fracture.

The withdrawals leave the All England Club without its two biggest homegrown stars before either could play a singles match, dealing a crushing blow to British fans hoping for memorable runs from their top-ranked players.

The timing makes the news even more painful. Draper arrived at Wimbledon in excellent form after reaching the semifinals at Eastbourne, where he defeated Marcos Giron, Jack Pinnington Jones, and Gabriel Diallo before falling to Ugo Humbert.

Raducanu was equally impressive, reaching the Queen’s Club final with victories over Anna Blinkova, Sorana Cirstea, Kamilla Rakhimova, and Iva Jovic before finishing runner-up to Donna Vekic.

Instead of building on that momentum at the All England Club, both players now find themselves watching from the sidelines.

Draper had been scheduled to open his campaign against Taylor Fritz in one of the marquee first-round matches on the men’s side.

His withdrawal removes one of the tournament’s most anticipated opening-round contests while further extending a frustrating stretch of injury setbacks that have interrupted the former world No. 4’s career over the past year.

While Wimbledon always produces new storylines, the tournament has scarcely begun, yet British tennis has already lost its two brightest hopes.
