Linda Noskova Varvara Gracheva 6–3, 6–4

What Tuesday’s Upsets Changed in Doha

Tuesday’s results didn’t just remove names from the draw. They removed protection. Several sections that looked sealed on paper are now open, and players who were facing steep paths are suddenly staring at opportunity.

That matters in Doha, where the courts play like fast clay, and punished poor service games and players who did not come prepared for the battle.

Wednesday’s Matches – What’s at Stake in the Top Half

With multiple seeds already gone, the top half of the Doha draw now runs through just a few remaining checkpoints. Wednesday’s Round of 16 will decide whether this section stabilizes around the favorite or opens even further.

Iga Swiatek vs Daria Kasatkina

Daria Kasatkina has lost six straight matches to Iga Swiatek, and none of them have been close. Swiatek has controlled those meetings from start to finish. If Kasatkina doesn’t serve well and hold early, this could turn into a quick match in Doha.

Karolina Pliskova vs. Karolina Muchova

Karolina Pliskova vs Karolina Muchova is an all-Czech battle. Pliskova will fight and rely on her serve, but Muchova is the better mover and is comfortable handling Pliskova’s service game once rallies start.

Anna Kalinskaya vs. Elina Svitolina

Anna Kalinskaya is coming off a big win and playing with confidence. Elina Svitolina relies on defense, movement, and experience. This match likely comes down to whether Kalinskaya can hold serve against Svitolina’s strong return game.

Varvara Gracheva vs. Maria Sakkari

Maria Sakkari is playing more consistently and has a chance to avenge her first-round loss at the 2024 French Open to Varvara Gracheva, a player she has beaten twice before. Gracheva has won four straight matches here in Doha, but this could be the end of the run against a steadier opponent.

Jelena Ostapenko vs. Camila Osorio

Jelena Ostapenko’s one-two punch should control this matchup. Camila Osorio is scrappy and will compete for every point, but this is a surface Ostapenko knows well. If Ostapenko is landing her first strike, she should get through this match comfortably.

Ann Li vs. Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Ann Li comes in playing solid tennis and is priced close to a pick’em. She doesn’t need to out-hit Cocciaretto to win this match. If Li stays steady, defends well, and picks her spots, she has a clear path to the quarterfinals.

Qinwen Zheng vs. Elena Rybakina

A pure power checkpoint. Rybakina has been steady and controlled so far, while Zheng looks great but is still recovering from a lengthy injury absence. The winner becomes the clear favorite to reach the final from this half if order holds.

Mirra Andreeva vs. Victoria Mboko

Mirra Andreeva and Victoria Mboko are both teenagers who recently crossed paths in Australia. This one should be fun. Two of the best young players in the draw, both confident, both aggressive. Andreeva probably has a slight edge right now, but Mboko is a tough competitor who doesn’t give away free points.
