Defending champion Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favorite to repeat when the Terra Wortmann Open begins on Monday, June 16.
Former Halle Open champions Alexander Bublik, Hubert Hurkacz, and Ugo Humbert, as well as Stuttgart runner-up Alexander Zverev, all vie to end Sinner’s Halle Open run.

Halle Open Players to Watch
Jannik Sinner: He’s coming off a horrible French Open loss to Carlos Alcaraz; he’ll regroup just fine, but will that motivate him enough to repeat here?
Alexander Bublik: The 2023 champ is coming off a strong French Open run and is a dangerous grass-court player.
Alexander Zverev: He has never won an event on grass, but he is a two-time finalist (2016-2017) and has won nearly everything that Germany has to offer except this one.
Daniil Medvedev: The 2022 Halle Open finalist and 2024 Wimbledon semifinalist has a proven game for grass, but he doesn’t seem motivated this year.
Ugo Humbert: The former Halle Open champ reached the 2024 Wimbledon Round of 16, but inconsistent play and injuries highlight his 2025 campaign.
Karen Khachanov: He may not have the goods to win the Halle Open, but his 27-17 mark on this surface means he could make some noise this week.
Felix Auger-Aliassime: The two-time Stuttgart finalist (2021, 2019) has had moments of brilliance surrounded by too much mediocrity.
Zizou Bergs: The Libema Open runner-ups’ 23-10 grass court record makes him a formidable grass court opponent.
Joao Fonseca: The teen sensation’s forehand is must-see TV.
Jan-Lennard Struff: The local favorite and 2023 Stuttgart runner-up has a serve powerful enough to turn someone’s lights out.
Hubert Hurkacz: The 2024 finalist and 2022 Halle Open champion has battled through numerous injuries but withdrew from his second-round Libema Open match with Mark Lajal.
Phil Naessens Halle Open Prediction
If Jannik Sinner wants to win this tourney, he has the draw to make that happen.
His quarter shouldn’t be bothersome at all for the defending champion. Sasha Bublik could push Sinner around a bit with his serve, but the Italian should get through to a potential quarterfinal matchup with Hubert Hurkacz.
Hurkacz shouldn’t face too many surprises. His huge serve and ability to finish points at the net are plusses on this surface, but he’s retired twice with one walkover across the last 52 weeks, and Sinner might be the second-fittest player on tour.
Andrey Rublev or Felix Auger Aliassime would likely be Sinner’s semifinal opponent. FAA is the more accomplished on this surface, but Rublev’s serve could get him there.
Either way, I like Sinner to reach at least the final.
He’ll likely meet either Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, or Alexander Zverev in the finale.
A Medvedev-Tsitsipas quarter would be interesting. Med has a couple of grass court titles to his name, while 2022 Mallorca champ Tsitsipas stands at 22-18 on the slippery surface.
Zverev is coming off a finals run in Stuttgart and may not have the gas left to get past a semifinal encounter with Medvedev.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner
