Emma Raducanu and Coach Francisco Roig Part Ways After Australian Open Exit

Emma Raducanu coach Francisco Roig split

Emma Raducanu has ended her coaching partnership with Francisco “Francis” Roig after roughly six months. Raducanu posted a message thanking Roig for their time together and described the split as a mutual decision.

Roig is best known for his long stretch working with Rafael Nadal. Raducanu brought him into her team last summer as she tried to steady her game and build a clearer day to day plan around her baseline patterns and serve.

The timing is not a surprise. Raducanu lost in the second round of the Australian Open to Anastasia Potapova, and afterward, she said she felt a bit stuck in how she was trying to play.

In plain terms, it looked like she was caught between two ideas. Play safe and extend rallies, or step in and take the ball early like she wants to.

Against Potapova, that indecision showed up in rushed misses and loose patches that swung momentum. She then seemingly took a dig at Roig in the post-game presser, lamenting;

“I want to hit the ball to the corners and hard,” she said. “I need to work on playing in a way more similar to how I was playing when I was younger [when I] always just changed direction, took the ball early, and went for it.”

Raducanu has not announced a new coach yet, but whoever it is joins a long list of coaches Team Raducanu has sacked.

Raducanu is still listed on the player list for next week’s Transylvania Open, and the 2026 Qatar TotalEnergies Open in Doha, scheduled for February 8–14 (WTA 1000, outdoor hard courts).

Entry lists can change before the draw is made, but as of now she’s on the slate.
