Our WNBA Power Rankings have changed significantly from our May 17 opening-week rankings. There was no change at the top, but Indiana and Las Vegas both tumbled.
Find out where your favorite WNBA squad has landed in our updated May 26 WNBA Power Rankings.
How We Compile the 2025 WNBA Power Rankings
The Crush and Rush News 2025 WNBA Power Rankings are compiled through a detailed analysis of each team’s roster, chemistry, health, and recent performance. We evaluate:
- Player Roster: Star power, new additions, and fit.
- Team Chemistry and Depth: How cores and new pieces gel.
- Health: Injuries can make or break a 40-game season.
- Recent Performance: Who’s hot, who’s not?
WNBA Standings and League Leaders
1. New York Liberty (No Change, 1-0)
Why They Stay at #1: The Liberty bounced Chicago and had a big come-from-behind victory at Indiana this week. New York has four winnable games this week: a home-and-home matchup with Golden State on Friday, at Washington on Friday, and against Connecticut on Sunday.
Concern: Leonie Fiebich needs to improve her 25% shooting from downtown.
2. Minnesota Lynx (No Change 4-0)
Why They Stay at #2: The Lynx are 4-0 after beating the Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun. They have a tough week beginning Tuesday at home against the Seattle Storm, followed by weekend road games against the Phoenix Mercury and Golden State Valkyries.
Concern: Hopefully, Kayla McBride returns soon because the Lynx starters average a fourth-best 34 points per night.
3. Seattle Storm (Up 4, 3-1)
Why They Move to #3: The Storm went 3-0 this week with a road win over Dallas and convincing home victories over Phoenix and Las Vegas. Seattle has another difficult week ahead, beginning Tuesday (at Minnesota), followed by a two-game weekend homestand on Friday with Atlanta and Las Vegas on Sunday.
Concern: They win games but only shoot 20% from downtown.
4. Phoenix Mercury (Up 2, 3-1)
Why They Move to #4: Phoenix went 2-1 on the week, with victories over LA and Washington, and its only loss to Seattle. They could climb the WNBA Power Rankings with home games against Chicago (Tuesday) and Minnesota (Friday) before traveling on Sunday for a matchup with the Sparks.
Concern: They’ve beaten bad teams, but their 11th best turnover percentage will hurt them without Kahleah Copper (out six weeks) to bail them out.
5. Atlanta Dream (Up 3, 3-2)
Why They Move to #5: The Dream went 3-1 this week. Victories over Indiana, Dallas, and Connecticut raised their record to above .500. They hit the road this week in Los Angeles (Tuesday) and Seattle (Friday).
Concern: Injuries have depleted their rotation, and Rhyne Howard has made two of her previous 18 three-point attempts.
6. Las Vegas Aces (Down 2, 2-2)
Why They Drop to #6: They went 2-1 this week, but Seattle blew them out. They have a few days off to practice before hosting LA on Friday with a Sunday rematch at Seattle.
Concern: They’ve lost to the only good teams they’ve faced because of their 10th-ranked defensive Net Rating.
7. Indiana Fever (Down 2, 2-2)
Why They Drop to #7: The Fever went 1-2 this week with home losses to Atlanta and New York, with a road win over the Dream. Indiana has a good week to climb the WNBA Power Rankings, beginning Wednesday at Washington and home Friday to host Connecticut.
Concern: The Fever must learn to step on the gas with a big lead and defend their home floor.
8. Washington Mystics (Down 3, 2-3)
Why They Drop to #8: The Mystics dropped three straight this week (Valkyries, Aces, Sun) by a combined 11 points. They could slide further down the WNBA Power Rankings, as they have a tough week ahead as they host Indiana on Wednesday and New York on Friday.
Concern: This squad could be dangerous once they learn to close out games.
9. Golden State Valkyries (Up 4 2-1)
Why They Move to #9: The Valkyries have left the bottom of the WNBA Power Rankings table and are on a two-game winning streak after beating Washington and LA. They have a tough week ahead, with their Tuesday and Thursday away games against the Liberty, and host the Lynx on Sunday.
Concern: Averaging 2.7 blocks per game is not good in the W.
10. Los Angeles Sparks (Down 2, 2-3)
Why They Drop to 10: Losses to Phoenix and Golden State hurt LA, but the Sparks did hold serve at home Sunday against Chicago. LA hosts Atlanta on Tuesday, visits Vegas Friday, and welcomes Phoenix on Sunday.
Concern: Injuries and the starting five rank 10th in turnovers.
11. Dallas Wings ( Down 1 , 0-4)
Why They Drop to #11: Three losses to Seattle, Minnesota, and Atlanta this past week have dropped the Wings to 0-4. Dallas has a pair of away games against Connecticut (Tuesday) and Chicago (Thursday), then back home for a Saturday night rematch with the Sky.
Concern: Bad defense and 20 fouls per night have been their downfall.
12. Chicago Sky (Down 1, 0-3)
Why They Drop to #12: Blowout losses to the Liberty at home and the Sparks on the road have them ranked last in our WNBA Power Rankings. Road games this week against Phoenix (Tuesday) and Dallas (Sunday), with a Thursday home game against the Wings, might keep Chicago in the cellar.
Concern: They should blow that entire team up and start over.
13. Connecticut Sun (Down 1, 0-4)
Why They Drop to #13: The Sun are one of three without a victory, and it won’t get any easier for Connecticut this week when the host Dallas (Tuesday), then hits the road Friday (Indiana) and Sunday (NY Liberty)
Concern: The Sun boasts the second-worst point differential in the W.
